Summer Reading

We are now officially entrenched in the dog days of summer and wanted to share each of our perfect guilty pleasure summer reads. We guarantee you won't be able to put them down whether you're enjoying them by the pool, at the lake, or during a staycation. First up is Ange's pick:

The Unexpurgated Diary by Anais Nin

A perfect summer read to me is by Anais Nin, especially her diaries. Henry & June: The Unexpurgated Diary (1931 -1932) is one of Nin’s most well known journals of an in depth look of her intense love affair with Henry Miller and his wife June.

Most of the book is set in Paris 1931-32, in brothels, theatres, cafes, hotels and small Parisian apartments. There are moments when Nin takes Miller to Louveciennes, her country home, where they would spend days hidden from the world. I imagine a villa tucked away in a beautiful French countryside, carefree days, hours spent reading, writing, riding bicycles on the country roads and enjoying the company of close friends. There’s no denying that this book is a steamy summer read. Seriously, what’s not to love!
